Vocabulary Terms for CH16

sound wave

a longitudinal wave that is caused by vibrations and that travels through a material medium

pitch

the property of sound that varies with variation in the frequency of vibration

infrasound

any sound with a frequency below the audible range of hearing (less than 20 Hz)

ultrasound

using the reflections of high-frequency sound waves to construct an image of a body organ (a sonogram)
