X-axis The horizontal axis on a cartesian graph
Y-axis The vertical axis on a cartesian graph
Acute angle An angle less than 90 degrees but more than 0 degrees
Congruent Same shape and same size
Reciprocal A fraction that has been flipped. The reciprocal of 3/4 is 4/3.
Area Surface space that is measured in square units.
Perimeter The distance around the outside of a shape
circumference The distance around a circle (perimeter)
Equation A mathematical sentence that contains an equals sign.
Unit ratio A ratio that shows the cost per unit of measure
Quadrant One of four regions of a coordinate system bounded by the x-axis and y-axis
Ordered pair A pair of numbers, (x, y), that indicate the position of a point on a Cartesian plane
Domain A knowledge domain that you are interested in or are communicating about
Range The set of possible numbers for the y-axis
Domain The set of possible numnbers for the x-axis
Variable A letter or a symbol that represents a number in an alebraic expression
Order of operations Parentheses, exponents, multiplication, division, addition, subtraction
Mathematical model An expression, equation, or inequality of a real-life situation
Coefficient The number in front of the variable with no sign in between
Scatter plot A graph that displays two sets of data as ordered pairs (points)
Best fit line or trend line A linear model that best fits the data
Correlation How well a line would fit data points... Can be: 1. strong or weak 2. positive or negative
Pbtuse angle an angle that measures greater than 90 degrees and less than 180 degrees
