Definitions

Temperature Measure of the average kinetic energy of the individual particles
Farenheit tempurature scale on which water freezes at 32 degrees and boils at 212 degrees
Celsius Metric unit for measuring temperature; On this scale water freezes at zero and boils at 100.
Kelvin SI unit for temperature; On this scale water freezes at 273 and boils at 373
Absolute zero The coldest temperature possible, 0 deg Kelvin, that can be reached. Particles have no kinetic energy. Degrees same as on Centigrade Scale.
Thermal energy the total kinetic and potential energy of all the particles in a substance.
Freezing the change in state from a liquid to a solid
Boiling the application of heat to change something from a liquid to a gas
Heat gain heat or get hot.
Conduction Molecule to molecule transfer of heat
Convection Transfer of heat by fluid movement or liquids
Convection current a current caused by the rising of heated fluid and sinking of cooled fluid
Radiation Transfer of energy that by electromagnetic waves
Conductor a device designed to transmit electricity, heat, etc.
Insulator A material that does not allow heat or electrons to move through it easily. Examples: styrofoam, paper
Specific heat The amount of heat required to raise the temperature of 1kg of a substance 1 degree K
