Standard Notation The way numbers are usually written. Examples: 6, 12, 1,000, 5,000,000
Exponential Notation A way of showing repeated multiplication. Example: 2, 4, 6,
Exponent A small raised number used when writing numbers in exponential notation. Same as power. Example: 3. The exponent or power is 2.
Base A number that is raised to a power. Example: 5. The base is 5.
Number and Word Notation Large numbers that are written with both numerals and words. Example: 5 billion.
Expanded Notation A way of writing a number as the sum of the values of each digit. Example: 567 = 500 + 60 + 7
Scientific Notation Numbers that are written as the product of a power of 10. Example: 4,300,000 = 4.3 x 10
Expression A mathematical phrase that is made up of numbers, variables (letters), and operation symbols (+, -, x, /),
Trend How something has changed over time.
Negative Numbers Numbers that are less than zero. Example: -5, -4, -10, etc.
Nested Parentheses Parentheses inside of parentheses Example: 5+ (6 -(3+1)) =
