Montag

Main character 30 years old, The protagonist. He was a fireman, and burned books. He started to question why books were so bad. He got help from Faber, and showed courage for standing up for what he believed

Mildred

Montag's wife, Montag's wife. She stays distant and hardly talks to him. Instead, she listens to her seashell and interacts with the 'family' in the parlor wall

Faber

An old professor that helps Montag understand what he is reading, A retired English teacher who Montag met about a year ago. He helped Montag escape from the fireman, and he shows courage by not believing in book burning.

Beatty

Fire chief owns books but does not read them, Head fire chief. Found out that Montag was questioning the burning of books and sent the Mechanical Hound after him. Montag later burned him to death

Mechanical hound

A machine that is built to kill anything that thinks, A machine that works for the firemen and has been set to follow and dislike Montag. It doesn't have any feeling, and it barks and attacks Montag every time it sees him.

Clarisse

A girl that Montag met and talked to and Clarisse opened up Montag's mind and made him think, A girl that Montag met that told him and made him think about what he was doing brining all of the books and that someone had to write all of the books (MH)

salamander

n- A mythical creature that is believed that it can last through a fire. In the novel Farenhieght 451 the fire fighters are called salamanders.
