gemuzhen : Hey, I'm a student learning "Teaching Chinese as a second language", and I've just found some mistakes in your space race game. The pinyin of 文 should be wen2, not wen4. Hope that this message can help you with your quiz.
gemuzhen : 好should be hao3, not hao4. The character has two pronounciations, hao4 means "like".
gemuzhen : 活(to be alive) shoule be huo2, not huo4. huo4 should be 和(the same character as he2), but it means "to mix" when it's pronounced like huo4.
mattj : wow that person sounds smart
mcgrimm : What exactly do the numbers in the definitions mean (for example, jiu3)?
fungirl99 : If you don't know chinese, you won't undeerstand. I know chinese, too. It is HARD!!!!!!!!!!!!
mcgrimm : Yes, but the thing is, I do understand the numbers, as my mother is from Taiwan, but i don't understand what the numbers in the parentheses mean.
mcgrimm : So, if I'm not making myself clear, what is meant by , yi1, er4, san1, etc.?
choppa : I also would like to know what's meant by the numbers within the parenthesis?
nickdawan : I think it's Pinyin with the tone. Happy to see so many people learning Chinese now, hehe
nickdawan : Pinyin is representing vocal sounds, by this tools, you know how to read the Character, but Pinyin is a little different with English ABC
szwh3 : 眼睛 eye (yan3jing1)
fungirl99 : the () things are how you say them, then the tone.
Bobbi_2 : I believe 你 should be third tone (ni3, like the audio), but the pinyin shows first tone (ni1) -- so might be worth checking. BTW, this is a great word list. Thank you!
fungirl99 : Right. I didn't catch that.
mrugh : anyone around?
mrugh : anyways, i'm trying to figure out what the numbers are after the words
mrugh : i'm used to accent marks
Starsapphire : What do the numbers mean? :|
Starsapphire : You spelled tomorrow tommorow :) :( :D :P :|
noshenim : If you do not understand what those numbers mean, go to about.com or wherever and introduce yourself to mandarin.
noshenim : http://web.mit.edu/jin zhang/www/pinyin/tones /index.html
