Lever A simple machine that has a bar that pivots at a fixed point called a fulcrum
1st Class Lever Lever in which the fulcrum is between the input force and the load (output force)
2nd Class Lever Lever in which the load is between the fulcrum and the input force
3rd Class Lever Lever in which the input force is between the fulcrum and the load.
Pulley A simple machine that has a grooved wheel that holds a rope or cable, and the load is attached to the end of the rope, while the input force is applied on the other end.
Fixed Pulley A pulley that is attached to something that does not move (only spins).
Movable Pulley A pulley that is attached to the object being moved, and moves with the load
Block and Tackle A combination of fixed and movable pulleys with multiple rope segments
Wheel and Axle A simple machine consisting of two circular objects of different sizes working together; the wheel is the larger of the two.
Inclined Plane A simple machine that is a straight, slanted surface used to move loads; a ramp
Wedge A simple machine that combines two inclined planes back to back
Screw A simple machine that consists of an inclined plane wrapped around a cylinder
