female reproductive system
the main functions of theis system are to produce female sex cells called eggs or ova and to provide nourishment for a fetus until the time of birth
female sex cells; another name for them is eggs
there are 2 of these located in the pelbix cabity that produce 1 mature oba each month. these also produce some hormones each month that help to requlate other female reproductive organs. on eof these hormones is called estroge, a hormone that is reponsible for the developement of the female characteristics of a human body.
a hormone produced by the ovaries that is responsible for the develpment of the femalie characteristics of a human body
once each month one of the ovaries expels 1 mature ova for possible ferilization. these transport the ova to the uterus. if sperm have been deposited in the female vagina then the sperm will typically migrate into these where htey meet and fertilize the ova
the oviducts connect an ovary to this. when a sperm ferilizes an egg a cell called a zygote is created. while in this the zygote developes into a fetus and then into a mature baby ready for birth. when the thick layer of muscle in the wall of this contracts during childbirth the baby is expelled from the body
this organ is also called the birth canal. it is the cavity into which sperm cells are deposited during intercouse. it is also the cavity a baby passes through during childbirth.
