What changed communications?
Internet, and TV.
They think the next thing will be a hybrid between an IPAD and a smartphone. The big dilemma now with the next step is the keyboard. (Needs to be tactile. Our fingers prefer it.)
What did the internet start with?
This whole thing started with the US government. Every great advancement has been govt. funded, normally for war efforts.
The government formed an agency and funded them to link comps.

What is the great divide of internet users?
The great divide you think would be age, but the biggest divide is socioeconomic. The thing that keeps people from using the web is money.
The economy of the web
is still not established. We thought the web would follow the same model as everything previously. We thought if we could attract people to a website we could generate a certain amount of advertising.
How is web read?
People read about 25% slower and retain 25% less of information on a computer screen. They think this is because the computer screen emits light instead of reflects light. Our eyes, have always seen reflected light. They dont like looking at the source of light.
you have to understand that when you do web work that you have a very skeptical audience.

How do we overcome this?
With good news values. Focus on newsworthiness. Be careful to stay away from fluff and hype and stuff thats just self serving.

This is your image. This is what people think of you. You must have professional design work done on your website. Get ready to spend some money, to be able to do this. Make sure that your website adheres to the principles of IMC.

Your efforts have to have substance. "it's not just save the whales..its here is how we are going to save the whales."
Give users what they expect to see.
