Order by
13 terms
Terms | Definitions |
|---|---|
displacement | distance and direction between starting and ending positions |
speed | distance traveled divided by the time needed to travel the distance |
velocity | displacement divided by the time |
acceleration | the change in velocity divided by the amount of time required for the change to occur |
force | a push or a pull |
first law of motion | An object will remain at rest or move in a straight line with a constant speed unless it is acted upon by a force |
balanced forces | equal forces in opposite directions, they will cancel each other out |
unbalanced forces | forces acting on an object that do not cancel out |
second law of motion | An objecct acted on by an unbalanced force will accelerate in the direction of the force |
friction | a force that resists motion between surfaces thatt are touching |
third law of motion | Forces always act in equal but opposite pairs |
inertia | the tendency of an object to resist any change in its motion |
air resistance | force that opposes the motion of objects that move through the air |
