#### Definitions

displacement distance and direction between starting and ending positions
speed distance traveled divided by the time needed to travel the distance
velocity displacement divided by the time
acceleration the change in velocity divided by the amount of time required for the change to occur
force a push or a pull
first law of motion An object will remain at rest or move in a straight line with a constant speed unless it is acted upon by a force
balanced forces equal forces in opposite directions, they will cancel each other out
unbalanced forces forces acting on an object that do not cancel out
second law of motion An objecct acted on by an unbalanced force will accelerate in the direction of the force
friction a force that resists motion between surfaces thatt are touching
third law of motion Forces always act in equal but opposite pairs
inertia the tendency of an object to resist any change in its motion
