FDIC a federally sponsored corporation that insures accounts up to $250,000 in national banks and other qualified institutions. It still exists.
SEC an independent federal agency that oversees the exchange of securities to protect investors. It is a watchdog agency that does not regulate prices. It still exists.
TVA The Tennessee Valley Authority federation was created in 1933 in order to provide navigation, flood control, electricity generation, fertilizer manufacturing, and economic development in the Tennessee Valley, a region particularly impacted by the Great Depression. It still exists
CCC Civilian Conservation Corps (1933)- Relief- Young men between the ages of 18 and 25 volunteered to be placed in camps to work on regional environmental projects, mainly west of the Mississippi; they received $30 a month, of which $25 was sent home; disbanded during World War II.
AAA Agricultural Adjustment Administration: attempted to regulate agricultural production through farm subsidies; ruled unconstitutional in 1936; disbanded after World War II. While the agency doesn't exist today, we still do subsidize farmers.
NRA National Recovery Administration: established and administered a system of industrial codes to control production, prices, labor relations, and trade practices. Unanimously ruled unconstitutional in 1935, because it infringed on the separation of powers under the Constitution.
FHA the federal agency in the Department of Housing and Urban Development that insures residential mortgages
FLSA (Fair Labor Standards Act) Act that set the normal work week at 40 hours, establish a national minimum wage, and outlawed child labor,
SSA Social Security Act: Relief passed in 1935 to provide Americans with retirement benefits. Mandated unemployment and disability insurance. Workers and employers pay into this fund.
NLRA National Labor Relations Act; outlawed company unions and other unfair labor practices in order to insure collective bargaining for unions.
