Pathology The study of disease and suffering

A shift in morphology; testable
Pathophysiology The alteration of physiology when disease is present
Health No unduely noted attention of organs; nothing standing out; the absence of disease
Disease Things aren't functioning or in balance
Syndrome A "collection" of signs and symptoms that make up a recognizable, diagnosable pattern
The big four Etiology
Pathogenesis
Morphology
Functional Derangements
Etiology The CAUSE of disease
Pathogenesis The developmental process that takes place that leads to disease (part of pathophysiology)
Morphology The Structural Changes that can be seen by looking at organs, diagnostic tools, ect.

Includes:
Gross Morphology: Large changes from normal appearance
Histopathology: Microscopic changes
Functional Derangements The Clinical Effects of the Disease
Homeostasis The dynamic balance which maintains relatively constant conditions in the body
Morbidity Illness Rate in a Population
Mortality Death Rate in a Population
Iatrogenic Treatment or Doctor-induced disease ; when a health professional makes a disease worse
Idiopathic No known Etiology; AKA.. refer to an ND :)

(Etiology does not need to be known to treat; can start to improve function)
Signs Something the Doctor picks up on in Patient (symptoms may or may not be present) ; OBJECTIVE findings; i.e. high cholesterol, Hypertension, pancreatic/ovarian cancer
Symptoms SUBJECTIVE experiences by patient
Multiple Levels of WellnessFrom Optimal Health at the top to Death at the bottom

As you move down the steps towards death = Declining health
As you move up the steps towards optimal health= Improving health (Allopathic treatments can be toxic and add to disease but are working on bottom four steps)

Middle steps:
-Structural Stress
-Chemical/Nutritional Stress
-Electromagnetic Stress
-Mental/Emotional/Spiritual Stress

Bottom Steps:
-Dysfunction
-Disease
-Signs/Sypmptoms
-Degeneration
-Death
Types of Healthcare -Reactive
-Preventative
-Wellness
Reactive Healthcare People that only consider their health when something goes wrong
Preventative Healthcare When people do things to prevent disease and dysfunction; dealing with it before you get it
Wellness Going beyond taking yourself out of disease to improve function as best you can *optimal health*
Models of the Health-Disease Continuum: Host Susceptibility: -State of Nutrition, Digestion, Absorption, Metabolism, and Elimination

-Fitness and Structural Functionality
Host Susceptibiltity: Emotional States -Unresolved states
-Cognitive Dissonance
-Sympathetic Dominance
-Dysfunctional breathing patterns
-Perfectionism
-Secondary Gain
-Negative Self Talk
Unresolved States An emotional processing that is still affecting emotional freedom
Cognitive Dissonance What you believe as our core-value is not how you're living your life
Sympathetic Dominance If your Autonomic Nervous System is dominated towards Sympathetic it will lead to disease
Dysfunctional Breathing Patterns Breath Patterns affect Autonomic Nervous System

Inhale= Sympathetic
Exhale = Parasympathetic

Effects Digestion: slow down before meals; chew well
PerfectionismThe belief that things can be done perfectly; this is a fallacy

Some people have a type of perfectionism that affects their health; will hold breath when asked a question

May be a response to a hostile environment earlier in life

Don't start things or only do things they're good at (*Based on Fear*)

Can lead to Burnout
Secondary Gain Pay-off's for staying in a negative pattern; keeps the pattern going - but cost is usually alot bigger
Negative Self-Talk -People who do this will push complements back at you - and consequently it alters the way people behave towards them

-Not good!

-
Host of Susceptibility *Air
*Water
*Rest
*Sleep
