Generally the verb is in the past tense.
The verb agrees with the noun that follows (the subject) either 3rd person singular or plural.
Se me perdieron los pasaportes. The passports are lost (to me).
Se le perdió el permiso de trabajo. The work permit has been lost (to him).
A mi padre se le venció el pasaporte. My father's passport expired.
