Pancreas

contains the islets of Langerhans

adrenal cortex

secretes cortisol, aldosterone, and testosterone

thyroid gland

secretes iodine-containing hormones

hypothalamus

secretes releasing hormones

anterior pituitary gland

secretes ACTH, TSH, prolactin, growth hormone, and the gonadotropins

adrenal medulla

part of the fight-or-flight system; secretes catecholamines

posterior pituitary gland

the neurohypophysis; secretes ADH and oxytocin

parathyroid hormone

stimulates osteoclastic activity to increase blood calcium

T3 and T4

regulates metabolic rate

stimulates the breast to produce milk; also called lactogenic hormone

the neurohypophyseal hormone that controls water balance

stimulates the adrenal cortex to secrete steroids

also called somatotropic hormone

aldosterone

the mineralocorticoid that is called the salt-retaining hormone
