| the ninth symphony was finished, continued Beethovens tradition of breaking barriers. It is an immense work with a revolutionary last movement that includes a choir and four vocal soloists. This was unheard of in a symhpony at this time, although many later composers imitated the idea in one way or another. The text for the last movement of ninth symphony is a poem by the great German poet Schiller: the Ode to Joy.
