Description:

"Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemists, but that's just peanuts to space."~ Douglas Adams

Variable Stars Stars that pulsate in brightness due to the expansion and contraction of their outer layers.
RR Lyrae Variables A class of variable stars that have periods of pulsation between 1.5 hours and one day.
Cepheid Variables A class of variable stars that have pulsation periods between one and one hundred days,a nd the luminosity as much as doubles.
Halo 1. A popular first person shooter video game developed by Bungie and published by Microsoft.
2. A spherical region where globular clusters are located, found around the nuclear bulge.
Population I Stars Stars found in the disk and arms of a galaxy and have small amounts of heavy elements. Our Sun is an example of a Population I Star.
Population II Stars Stars found in the halo and bulge of a galaxy. They contain only trace amounts of heavy elements.
Spiral Density Wave A hypothetical wave which is viewed as a possible cause for the unique spiral shape of some galaxies. It has spiral regions of alternating density, which rotate as a rigid pattern. As the wave moves through the gas and dust, it causes a temporary buildup of material.
Dark MatterI'm pretty sure Dark Matter was the name of the final boss in Kirby 64, but I'm not sure if that's exactly the defininition she's looking for here. Okay, to be safe, I'm gonna stick with the book: "Dark matter is thought to be made up of a form of subatomic particle that interacts only weakly with other matter."
Superclusters Superclusters are large clusters of galaxies.
Hubble constant A variable in Hubble's Law that represents the slope of the line and is measured kilometers per second per megaparsec.
Active Galactic Nucleus The core of an active galaxy where highly energetic objects or activities are located.
Radio Galaxies Extremely luminous giant elliptical galaxies that emit as much or more energy in radio wavelengths than they do in wavelengths of visible light.
Quasars Very luminous, very distant galaxies.
Cosmology The study of the universe.
The Big Bang Theory "In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and has been widely regarded as a bad move."~ Douglas Adams
Cosmic Background Radiation Residual radiation that theoretically belongs to the Big Bang.
