Bar graph | A visual depiction of data when the independent variable is nominal and the dependent variable is scale. Each abr typically represents the average value of the dependent var. for each category. |
Pareto Chart | a graph that shows the number of times a problem cause occurs with problem causes ordered by most frequent to least frequent |
Pictorial Graph | a visual that dramatizes statistical data by means of pictorial forms. |
Moire vibrations | Refers to any of the patterns that computers provide as options to fill in bar graphs (and ect). Tufte recommends only using shade of gray instead of patterns. |
Ducks | any features of the data that have been dressed up to be somthing other than merely data |
Chartjunk | a term coined by Tufte to describe informative graphics which include too many decorative/indicative (i.e. imagistic) elements, such as color, three-dimensionality, moiré or line textures, or actual images, aka "data ducks." |
