Terms	Definitions
geometry	the study of position, shape, and size of figures
point	a location in space that has no length, width, or height.
line	a straight, continuous, and unending path made up of a collection of points in a plane
line segment	a part of a line and has two endpoints
ray	part of a line that is made up of one endpoint and all the points on one side of it.
plane	a flat surface made up of a continuous and unending collection of points.
intersecting	lines that have one point in common
parallel	lines that lie in the same plane but never intersect
perpendicular	lines that intersect at right angles
vertex	The common endpoint of an angle
protractor	a tool used to measure angles
degrees	the unit of measurement used for angles
right	an angle that measures 90 degrees is classified as this
acute	an angle that measures less than 90 degrees
obtuse	an angle that measures more than 90 degrees
straight	an angle that measures 180 degrees
equilateral	a triangle that has 3 equal sides
isosceles	a triangle with 2 sides the same length
scalene	a triangle where no sides are the same length
congruent	figures, lines, or angles that are the same size or shape
quadrilateral	a polygon with 4 sides and 4 angles
rectangle	a polygon with opposite sides are congruent and 4 right angles
square	a polygon with 4 congruent sides and 4 right angles
parallelogram	a polygon with opposite sides congruent and parallel
rhombus	a polygon with 4 congruent sides and opposite sides parallel
trapezoid	a polygon with one pair of parallel sides
