Nephron | The microscopic filters in the kidney that remove wastes from the blood |
Central Nervous System | The part of the nervous system that includes the brain and the spinal cord |
Peripheral Nervous System | All of the parts of the nervous system except for the brain and the spinal cord |
Neuron | A nerve cell that is specialized to transfer messages in the form of fast-moving electrical energy called impulses |
Nerve | A collection of nerve fibers (axons) through which impulses travel between the CNS and the other parts of the body |
Gland | A group of cells (tissue) that make special chemicals for the body. |
Hormones | Chemical messengers made by the endorine glands that regulate (control) body functions by causing changes in other cells or tissues. |
