CFC Organic compounds that might be damaging the ozone layer. Including carbon, hydrogen, chlorine, and fluorine.
Global Warming The gradual increase of average global temperature
Greenhouse Effect The warming of the surface of the planet and lower atmosphere. Occurs when water vapor, carbon dioxide, and other gases absorb and reradiate thermal energy.
Air Pollution The contamination of the atmosphere by the introduction of pollutants from human and natural sources.
Ozone A form of oxygen that has three oxygen atoms in each molecule instead of the usual two.
Particulate Matter tiny particles of liquid or solid matter
Point-Source pollutants Pollutants that are released from a single source
Nonpoint-source pollutants Pollutants that come from several sources
Acid Precipritation Rain, sleet, or snow that contains a high concentration of acids
Air Quality A measurement of pollutants in the air
Primary Pollutants Pollutants that are released directly into the atmosphere
Secondary pollutants Pollutants that are not directly released into the atmosphere. They are formed when primary pollutants mix in the atmosphere.
