Terms | Definitions |

Step 1 | Bill is proposed. |
Step 2 | Goes to standing committee. Committee either sends bill to floor, or it dies. |
Step 3 | Floor action:Bill is debated; they vote to send bill on, or it dies. |
Step 4 | If the bill has been through both houses it goes to conference committee if different version of bill was passed in each house. |
Step 5 | Bill goes to the President. He has 10 days to either veto the bill or sign into law. |
Veto? | If President decides to veto the bill, it gets sent back to Congress; both House and Senate must have 2/3 majority vote to override veto. |
