How a Bill become a Law
|Step 1||Bill is proposed.|
|Step 2|| Goes to standing committee. |
Committee either sends bill to floor, or it dies.
|Step 3|| Floor action:|
Bill is debated; they vote to send bill on, or it dies.
|Step 4||If the bill has been through both houses it goes to conference committee if different version of bill was passed in each house.|
|Step 5||Bill goes to the President. He has 10 days to either veto the bill or sign into law.|
|Veto?||If President decides to veto the bill, it gets sent back to Congress; both House and Senate must have 2/3 majority vote to override veto.|
