Photosynthesis	The process when plants and other producers use sunlight energy to turn carbon dioxide and water into sugar (food).
Food Chain	A series of organisms that rely on each other for their food and survival.
Food Web	A system of food chains that are inter-connected.
Energy Flow	Light energy from the sun is turned into food energy by producers and this energy is passed up the food chain as organisms eat their food.
Interdependent	Organisms that depend on each other for survival

Producer	An organism that uses sunlight energy to make food (glucose) from carbon dioxide and water.
Consumer	An organism that eats other organisms.
Primary Consumer	Organisms that eat only producers (also called herbivores).
Secondary Consumer	Organisms that eat producers and other consumers (also called omnivores).
Top Predator	Animals (usually carnivores) at the top of the food web

Decomposers	Organisms that break down dead organisms into nutrients.
Bioaccumulation	When chemicals in an ecosystem build up in the bodies of organisms. Usually organisms at the top of the food web have the largest amount.
