Trigeminal Neuralgia/ Tic Douloureux
involves 5th cranial nerve (trigeminal) Intense, recurring episodes of pain described as jabbing, burning or knifelike
Facial nerve VII. Becomes inflamed & edematous, causing interruption of nerve impulses.
Visual acuity; 1 eye @ a time, then both by holding fingers ^ & asking "how many fingers do I have up?"
test done for VISUAL FIELD TEST; "follow my finger" around the clock
Have pt close eyes & 1 nostril @ a time have pt identify the familiar odor such as coffee or a lemon
The ability to move each eye in all directions c/ symmetry. Pupil's response to light is checked by shining a bright light into each pupil in a darkened room.

Temporal mandibular joint test. Also have pt. close eyes & identify different places being touched on face.

Test having pt make various faces chk for symmetry/ have pt close eyes & place salt/sugar on tongue & have pt state whether its salty/sweet
HEARING Test; stand @ foot of bed in in a low voice give simple commands/ BALANCE: (done by Dr. Only) Ice water or Electronystagraphy.
Test 2 parts; place your hand on the persons' throat & ask them to swallow. Then chk gag reflex if swallow is present & there are no S&S of ICP

TEST; pt can shrug shoulders symmetrically & can hold head erect when slight pressure is added
TEST; the pt is asked to stick out tongue & check for midline
