Xia 2205-1766BC
a mostly mythological dynasty because there is not written record of its existence
Shang 1523-1027BC
dates vary but it was a very superstitions society. They were famous for reading the future through cracked turtle shells and making special use of "dragon bones". They also were the first to start using bronze.
Zhou 1027-221BC
Zhou dynasty shook the ancient monarchy system and was also the period in which Confucius was born (551BC). They also started the "mandate of Heaven" idea and the meritocracy idea.
Qin 221-206BC
This dynasty is famous for all the stereotypical things like Terra Cotta soldiers and standardized the Chinese script. It could also be spelled "Chin" which lead to this being called "China".
Han 206BC-221AD
Origin of the Han people
(followed by the 6 dynasty period from 222-589)
Sui 589-618AD
They started the civil service examinations from the meritocracy idea of the Zhou people.
Tang 618-907AD
Famous for poetry and globalization
Song 960-1126AD
Famous for a very refined culture but they totally ignored the military which resulted in their last emperor being taken hostage by the mongol people.
Yuan 1280-1368
Mongol people that dominated the Song
Ming 1368-1644
Made the Forbidden City but the second Emperor chose a grandson instead of a son and this angered one of the sons so much that he started a rebellion and won. This moved the capital from Nanjing to Beijing.
