Scientific method

is an organized set of steps that can include stating a problem, forming a hypothesis, researching, analyzing data and drawing conclusions

Hypothesis

an educated guess using what you know and what you observe

Experiment

A set of controlled observations that test the hypothesis

Variable

a factor that can cause change in the results of an experiment

Constant

variable that is not changed in an experiment

Bias

occurs when a scientist's expectations change how the results of an experiment are viewed

Control

is the standard that is used for comparison of test results in an experiment

Independent variable

is the variable that the scientist plans to change in the experiment or the factor that affects the measure of other variables

Dependent variable

variable that changes as a result of a change in the independent variable

Model

can be used to represent an idea, object, or event that is too big, too small, too complex, or too dangerous to observe or test directly

Theory

explanation of things or events based on many observations and experiments

Scientific law

a statement about what happens in nature and that seems to be true all the time

Technology

the application of science to help people

SI

is the universally accepted version of the metric system that is based on multiples of ten

Volume

The amount of space occupied by an object

Mass

the amount of matter in an object

Density

is the mass per unit volume of a material

Graph

a visual display of information or data that can provide s quick way to communicate information
