Harriet Beecher Stowe & uncle tom's cabin
1852- she published a novel, uncle tom's cabin written to show evils of slvery and the injustice of the fugitive slave law about uncle tom, an enslaved african american noted for his kindness and his devotion to his religion. he is bought by simon legree, a cruel planter, who beats uncle tom until he dies *book chnaged the way northerners felt about slavery- could not ignore slavery as a political problem for congress to settle. saw slavery as a moral problem facing every american.
