Indications: open abdominal wounds, wide spectrum that includes anaerobes
ceftriaxone (Rocephin) Ther Cat: 3G Cephalosporins
Indications: bacterial meningitis, head wounds, severe otitis media, skin/bone/joint, gonorrhea infections
vancomysin (Vancocin) Ther Cat: Antibiotic
Indications: MRSA infection, severe GI infection from broad spectrum antibiotic use called "pseudomembranous colitis"
gentamicin (Garamycin), tobramycin (Nebcin) Ther Cat: aminoglycosides
Indications: sever GI, GU or suseptible infections
erythromycin (EryC, Emycin), clarithromycin (Biaxin), azithromycin (Zithromax) Ther Cat: macrolides
Indications: safe for indiv. allergic to penicillin, dental procedures, gingivitis, mild/moderate skin infections, strep throat, otitis media, repiratory infections
Azithromycin: Chlamydia
clindamycin (Cleocin) Ther Cat: anti-infective
Indicaitons: PO-oral infections, periodontal root abscess, IV-combination therapy for open abdominal wounds
chloramphenicol Ther Cat: antibiotic
Indicaitons: rarely used in US
doxycycline (Vibramycin), tetracycline (Sumycin) Ther Cat: tetracyclines
Indications: doxycycline-malaria prophylaxis, anthrax, chlamydia, prostate infections; TCN-acne
trimethoprim/sulfamethoxasole (Bactrim/Septra DS) Ther Cat: folate antagonist "sulfa drug"
Indications: sinus, UTI, otitis media, GI, URI, prostate infections
ciprofloxin (Cipro), levofloxacin (Levaquin) Ther Cat: Fluoroquinolones "quinolones"
Indications: Cipro-anthrax, UTI, gonorrhea, prostate infection, GI, skin, bone joint, sinus; Levaquin- repiratory/pneumonia, skin, sinus infections, UTI
metronidazole (Flagyl) Ther Cat: anti-parasitic
Indications: protozoal, anaerobic infections, anaerobic coverage for GI infections/wounds including pseudomembranous colitis, pelvic inflammatory disease
