Saint Lawrence Seaway This was constructed during Eisenhower's presidency and it was used to open up the Great Lakes to sea-going ships
Interstate Highway System This is a system of freeways, highways, and expressways that was authorized by Eisenhower. It connects all mainland US states and services nearly all major USA cities.
SputnikThis was an unmanned satellite that the Soviets launched into space, making them the first to successfully do so. Their launch worried America as they realized they were much further behind in their space programs than the Soviets, leading them to create NASA and other space organizations to boost the USA's science and technology level.
Explorer I This was the USA's first Earth satellite that was launched after the Soviet launching of Sputnik 1 and 2, and it started the Cold War Space Race.
National Defense Education Act of 1958 this extended federal aid to fund science and math programs in schools across the country, and was meant to help America come ahead in the Cold War Space Race against the Soviets
Brown vs. Board of Education of Topeka, KansasThis was the Supreme Court case fought to end segregation in schools where the Supreme Court declared it unlawful to abide by "separate but equal" as separate institutions were inherently unequal. When the Governor refused to allow the desegregation of schools, president Eisenhower sent the armed forces to ensure black children's safety enrolling in any school.
Civil Rights Act of 1957 This established a Civil Rights Commission and a Civil Rights Division in the Justice Department to secure voting rights for blacks.
Civil Rights Act of 1960 this legislation authorized the federal courts to register black men to vote
Sherman Adams Scandal This was when the White House Chief of Staff was found to have accepted a fur coat and an oriental rug in exchange for assisting in a Boston industrialist deal with the federal government.
missile gapIn a debate between Nixon and Kennedy, Kennedy stated that this had formed between America and the Soviets, favoring the Soviets. Meaning that America had fallen down on its job to protect the country with the same standard of weapons as any other country. However, the missile gap favored the Americans, but Nixon could not prove this without giving away classified information.
