What comes with complete freedom? CHAOS
What are the four theories of the Origin of the state? Evolutionary, Force, Divine Right, Social Contract
What situation does each of the theories begin with? A place of chaos
What is the evolutionary theory? The theory that the state began with a family that grew and splitted up and eventually became a state.
What was the "timeline" for the evolutionary theory? Family--> Familes--> Clans--> Tribe______ Then comes agriculture....
What type of group were the tribes before they discovered agriculture? Nomads
When were the state principles introduced in the Evolutionary Theory? After agriculture
What is an example of the evolutionary theory? Native Americans
What is the Force Theory? This theory says that one person, or a group of people, began the state by completely taking over the people with fear.
Who becomes the leader in the Force theory? The strongest person
How does the leader gain control in the Force theory? They kill people (strongest enemies, random citizens...) to promote fear. This makes people want to listen to the leader because they don't want to die.
In the Force theory, how does the leader maintain the power? Laws (to gain more control and keep it through FEAR)
What/Who is an example of the force theory? Adolf Hitler
What is the Divine Right Theory? When someone says that they are appointed by God to be a leader.
What are the two options for the people who may not believe that their leader is really "from God"? Lie or die
Royal Bloodline? If the leader dies, the leader becomes oldest son OR brother OR wife/oldest daughter or Military (in that order)
What is the Social contract theory? A group of people get together and realize that there needs to be some order, so they do something about it.
What is another word for contract? Constitution
In the social contract theory, what action do the leaders take first? Make laws
