Flexion

Towards the horizontal plane, medially

Extension

Away from horizontal plane, medially-back to anatomical position

Adduction

Away from horizontal plane, laterally

Abduction

Towards horizontal plane, laterally

Left Rotation

Head only, facing patient/objects' left

Right Rotation

Head only, facing patients'/objects' right

Medial Rotation

Rotate medially front joint (i.e. elbow)

Lateral Rotation

Rotate laterally from joint (i.e. elbow)- back to anatomical position

Pronation

Forearm only-Rotate palm, facing down

Supination

Forearm only-Rotate palm, facing up (*holding a cup of "soup")

Depression

Pulling down (i.e. opening jaw)

Elevation

Raising up (i.e. closing jaw)

Inversion

Foot only- Bottom of foot (plantar) facing inward/medially

Eversion

Foot only- Bottom of foot (plantar) facing outward/laterally

Protraction

Jaw-Pushing forward ("underbite")

Retraction

Jaw-Pulling back into place

Dorsiflexion

Ankle-Pointing toes upward/superior

Plantar-flexion

Ankle-Pointing toes downward/inferior

Opposition

Thumb print facing other finger prints/tips

Lateral Flexion

Head- Head facing laterally (left or right) or Bending neck, touching ear to shoulder
