geological feature n 지질학적 특성 a characteristic like a river, mountain, plateau, etc. that is natural to the earth. Example: "Some geological features like lakes were made by huge glaciers many years ago."
caldera n 칼데라 (화산 폭발 등으로 생긴 대규모 함몰지) a large, basinlike depression resulting from the explosion or collapse of the center of a volcano. Example: "We saw pictures of calderas that had formed hundreds of years ago. "
indeed adv 정말로 used for emphasis, to confirm a previous statement. Example: "Indeed, it did rain as hard as predicted."
conical adj 원뿔꼴의 in the shape of a cone. Example: "A wizard's hat usually has a conical shape."
not all though adv phrase 그러나 다 그렇지는 않다 not every one. Example: "The students were not behaving, but not all though."
crater n 분화구 a cup-shaped deression or cavity on the surface of the earth or other celestial body. Example: "The moon has many craters on its surface."
explosive caldera n 분출형 칼데라 a caldera that forms when a volcano erupts. Example: "There is an example of an explosive caldera in Yellowstone National Park in the USA."
in place adv phrase 대신(in place of~ 에서 of 생략) instead of. Example: "We had cold cereal in place of our usual oatmeal for breakfast."
non-explosive caldera n 비분출형 칼데라 a caldera that forms when an underground magma chamber in a volcano empties and collapses. Example: "A non-explosive caldera tends to happen gradually."
not...but~ conj ...가 아니라 ~이다 not by one such thing, but rather by another. Example: "The flood was not caused by heavy rain but by a break in the dam."
underground magma chamber n 지하의 마그마챔버(다량의 마그마가 모여 있는 지하의 공간) an area under a volcano where magma collects. Example: "An underground magma chamber can be quite large."
collapse n 붕괴 a falling in of something. Example: "The miners were trapped by the collapse of the tunnel."
active volcano n 활화산 a volcano that can and probably will erupt. Example: "Mayon Volcano in the Philippines is an active volcano that has the potential of causing serious damage."
