What membrane proteins are needed to activate a T cell? TCR, CD4/CD8 and CD3
Name 3 fates that TCRs can induce in their T cells 1. Activation (w/ costimulation) 2. Anergy (no costim) 3. apoptosis (during education in thymus)
IL-2 Stimulates proliferation of T cells. T cells use for autocrine signalling after activation. Growth factor for all T cells, although no effect on naive cells.
How do T cells stimulate dendritic cells? They express CD40L which binds CD40 on DCs. Stimulation increases B7 and MHC in a costimulatory loop.
Describe Gamma-Delta T cells These cells are must less common. They undergo junctional diversity and have memory but do not need Ag presentation to activate. They may recognize and kill cells that are stressed by pathogenic infection.
Describe Natural Killer T cells These cells recognize self and foreign Ag. They release INF-gamma, IL4 and GM-CSF. They seem to promote or repress different immune responses. Deficiency can lead to autoimmunity, cancer, asthma.
