Variable

A factor that can change in an experiment

Independent variable

(WHAT I CHANGE)
The variable that the scientist chooses to change; it's the cause of the experiment:
Sometimes called the manipulated variable.
In an experiment, the condition that is tested because it affects the outcome of the experiment
What the scientist change.
The "If" part of the hypothesis.
X-axis ,x is a cross so it must go across the page. Horizontal.In a data table , it is the first column.

Dependent variable

(WHAT I OBSERVE)
The variable that responds to the independent variable.
It's the EFFECT of the experiment.
Sometimes called the responding variable.
Only one of these in the experiment.
The variable that is measured in an experiment.
The condition that results from changes in the independent variable.
The "then" part of the hypothesis.
Y-axis ,the one that goes up high, so it is vertical
.In a data table , it is the 2nd column.

Constant variables

(WHAT I KEEP THE SAME)
The variables that remain the same throughout the experiment; constants or controlled variables
