extradition Legal process whereby an alleged criminal offender is surrendered by the officials of one states to officials of the state in which the crime is alleged to have been committed.
Fugitive Slaves runaway slaves or indentured servants --- If a slave runs away, then the state must return the slave back to the state/owner the slave came from).
Admitting New States Congress has the power to admit new states to the Union --- Existing states cannot be split up or joined together to form a new state UNLESS BOTH Congress & the State Legislatures approve. --- New states are equal to all other states.
Republic A form of government in which citizens choose their leaders by voting (they choose representatives to govern them).

impartial (adj) - SYNONYMS: fair; not taking sides; just; unbiased; neutral.
indictment the act of accusing; a formal accusation.
grand jury a panel of 12 to 23 citizens who evaluate whether there is enough evidence against a person to order him or her to stand trial.
double jeopardy the Fifth Amendment right providing that a person cannot be tried twice for the same crime.
testify to give testimony in a court of law; to give evidence & make a statement under oath.
due process of law principle in the 5th Amendment stating that the government must treat accused persons fairly according to rules established by law.
oath a commitment to tell the truth; to affirm the truth (especially in a court of law).
