Informed Consent | The participant must be told as much as possible about the research, without leaving out anything that could cause them to change their mind. If it's a child or a handicapped person, a legal guardian must give consent. |
Avoiding Deception | Participants "should never be deliberately misled without extremely strong scientific or medical justification, Even then there should be strict controls and the interested approval of independant visitors". (They cannot decieve the participant unless completely necessary to results) |
Right To Withdraw | The participant has the right to withdraw from the research at any time; even if the study is complete. They also have the right for all of the results to then be destroyed. |
Protection Of Participants | People may not experience any more harm or damage, mentally or physically, than they previously did in every day life. It must not put any psychological or physical stress on them. |
Debriefing | After the study, the research must be explained, and the participant must be checked. |
Confidentiality | All the data must be kept anonymous. |
Observational Research | Observations may only be done in a place that a participant would be expected to be observed. For example a park, or a high street. They could not be observed, say, in to their own home. |
