The Berlin Wall- August 15, 2011
Germany marks the 50th anniversary of the construction of this this week. It divided the city into two; one part communist (east) and one part democratic (west), and became a symbol of the cold war hostilities for 28 years.
Moammar Gadhafi- August 22, 2011
This man was the dictator of Libya, is being overthrown by rebels and NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) forces. His terrorists bombed a plane over Scotland and a disco in Germany. Americans were killed in both bombings.
The Martin Luther King Jr. monument- September 1, 2011
This was officially dedicated on Sunday, which was the 48th anniversary of the March on Washington, where this man's speech was delivered. He is the first person of color, and the first non-president, to have his own memorial on the Washington D.C. Mall, Jefferson, Lincoln, and F.D. Roosevelt have their own memorial.
The budget crisis- September 5, 2011
President Obama will adress Congress on Thursday night about this. The U.S. suffers a 9% unemployment rate and we are almost 15 trillon dollars in debt. The president may be forced to cut Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and other entitlements.
Al-Qaeda (The Base) flew two planes into the World Trade Towers and one plane into the Pentagon- September 11, 2011
It has been 10 years since this. Almost 3,000 people were killed. The U.S. went to war against the Taliban (seekers), the government in Afghanistan, because they protected Osama bin Laden, the leader of Al-Qaeda. the Taliban were overthrown, bin Laden was killed, and Al-Qaeda dispersed.
The Space Shuttle program- September 22, 2011
This was begun in 1981 and since then we have lost two shuttles; Challenger and Columbia. Atlantis was the last shuttle to go up into space and its mission left the I.S.S (International Space Station) with a year's worth of provisions. Since then the Russian supply ship that was supposed to send up more supplies to the I.S.S has crashed.

President Abbas of the Palestinian Authority formally requested this, rejecting arguments by the United States and Israel that it was not a subsitute for direct negotiations for peace in the Middle East. Israel won the Gaza strip from Egypt during the 1967 war and hasn't given it independence.
