Terms	Definitions
force	a push or a pull
motion	a change in distance from another object
balanced forces	equal forces acting in opposite directions
friction	a force that one substance exerts on another when the two rub against each other
reference point	a place or object used for comparision in order to tell if an object is in motion
speed	the distance an object travels in one unit of time
velocity	speed in a given direction
unbalanced forces	a force that changes an object's motion
newton	SI (metric) unit of force
average speed	Total distance divided by total time
constant speed	object that is moving at the same rate because of equally applied forces
displacement	distance and direction of an object's change in position from the starting point
distance vs time graph	the purpose is to describe the motion of an object in relation to a fixed point at the start
position vs time graph	shows where an object it as a certain time
speed vs time graph	shows the speed of an object during a specific time
slope	the steepness of a line on a graph, rise over run
position	the particular portion of space occupied by a physical object
direction	a pathway that leads to the point of destination
