Cub Scout Promise

Promise (meaning)

When you say you will do something.

Duty to God (meaning)

Put God first. Do what you know God wants you to do.

Duty to my country (meaning)

Do what you can for your country. Be proud that you are an American.

To help other people (meaning)

Do things for others that will help them.

Obey the Law of the Pack (meaning)

Do what Akela asks you to do. Be a good Cub Scout. Be proud that you are one.

The Cub Scout follows Akela.
The Cub Scout helps the pack go.
The pack helps the Cub Scout grow.
The cub Scout gives goodwill.

-Akela is a good leader.
-You mom, dad, or other adult member of your family is Akela.
-In the pack, your Cubmaster is Akela.
-Your den leader is Akela.

Come to all the meetings. Do what you can to help. Think of others in the pack.

The Pack helps the Cub Scout grow. (meaning)

You can have fun when you are part of the pack. Learn things from others. Do things with them.

The Cub Scout gives goodwill. (meaning)

Smile, Be happy. Do things to help others. Little things make a big difference.

Webelos (meaning)

(WE-buh-lows) has a special meaning that Cub Scouts know. It is We'll Be Loyal Scouts. WeBeLoS

Cub Scout Sign

Make the Cub Scout sign with your right hand. Hold with your arm straight up.

Cub Scout Sign (meaning)

The two fingers stand for two parts of the Promise-- "to help other people" and "to obey." They look like a wolf's ears ready to listen to Akela.
Give the cub scout sign when you say the Cub Scout Promise or the Law of the Pack.

Cub Scout Handshake

Here's how to shake hands with another Cub Scout. Hold out your right hand just as you always do to shake hands. Put your first two fingers along the inside of the other boy's wrist.

Cub Scout Salute

Use your right hand, hold your fingers as you do for the Cub Scout sign. Keep the two straight fingers close together. Touch the tips of those fingers to your cap. If you are not wearing a cap, touch your right eyebrow.

A salute is a way to show respect. We salute the flag to show respect to our country.
