Definitions

Force anything that causes a change in the motion of an object (can be a push or a pull)
Newton (N) the standard SI unit for measuring force
Balanced forces these forces are equal in strength and opposite to each other in direction (in this situation the objects will not move)
Unbalanced forces these unequal forces cause a change in the speed or direction of an object (in this situation an object will move)
Mass the amount of matter in an object ( the standard unit of its measurement is in kilograms (kg))
Weight a measure of the force (pull) of gravity on an object (the standard unit of its measurement is in Newtons (N))
Buoyancy the upward force on objects submerged in or floating on fluids
Average density the total mass of all substances that make up the object divided by the total volume
Pressure the force acting on a certain area of a surface
Pascal's law pressure applied to an enclosed fluid is transmitted with equal force throughout the entire container
Hydraulics the study of pressure in liquids
Hydraulic systems devices that transmit applied force through a liquid to move something else
Pneumatic systems devises that use a gas to transmit a force
