Process Projection or bump
Ramus An extension of a bone that makes an angle with the rest of the structure, arm-like projection
Trochanter A large, rough projection, large, irregularly shaped process (on femur only)
Tubercle A small, rounded projection or process
line A long narrow ridge, more delicate (less prominent) than a crest
Tuberosity A small, rough projection that may occupy a broad area of the bone surface, elevated projection
Crest A prominent narrow ridge
Spine A pointed,slender or narrow process
Neck A narrow connection between the head of the bone and the diaphysis of the bone
Head An expanded (rounded) proximal end of a bone that forms part of a joint, connected to a narrow neck

Sulcus Deep, narrow groove
Fossa A shallow depression or recess in the surface of the bone
Foramen A small, rounded passageway through which blood vessels or nerves penetrate the bone, round or oval hole or opening
Fissure An elongated cleft or gap, slit-like opening
Sinus A chamber (cavity) within a bone that is normally filled with air
Canal or meatus A large passageway through the substance of a bone, bony canal
