Rhode Island NEW ENGLAND COLONY; Roger Williams was kicked out of Mass. for not worshiping god like the puritans wanted him to. He took his family south and bought land from indians. later Anne Hutcherson came along for the same reason. They started the colony Rhode Island.

New YorkMIDDLE COLONY; Dutch West Indies founded the land first, then Duke of York from England took over. New Yorkers soon started protesting his laws because they were unfair to everyone. The people created 15 laws but the Duke did not approve. Later Jacob Liesler formed a rebellion and then became the leader of New York
Pennsylvania MIDDLE COLONY; king granted William Penn the charter to 1.repay a dept he wed his father and 2. it would keep Penn from started trouble because of his Quacker lifestyle. He took many people to America to live how they wanted to.

Maryland SOUTHERN COLONY; Cecil Calvert moved to maryland because of his father who died before the king granted him the charter. Calvert was unhappy with how Roman Catholics were treated so moved and named his brother, Leonard Calvert governor. Leonard passed a law that gave religious liberty.
Virginia SOUTHERN COLONY; Sir Walter Raleigh founded the land with his crew then sent John Smith back to England for more supplies and food for them to settle. When Smith came back they all disappeared. Tobacco was important for their economy. But finding workers was tough.
GeorgiaSOUTHERN COLONY; James Oglethorpe wanted people who owed debts to have a better life than going to jail so went to america. King granted charter so the spanish in florida wouldnt move north. the spanish kept attacking but Oglethorpe fought them off. He also had a very specific laws of no acohol and slaves. The people were not happy, they wanted large plantations to make money. Oglethorpe soon became broke and lost all of his money trying to make the perfect colony.

Education in Middle Colonies education was based on your religion. most of the time they would go to church schools or the older kids would educate the younger siblings
Education in New England Colonies public schools were required. they were the higher educated students
Transportation in the Colonies cities were usually next to the waterfront (the heart of the city) where ships would bring in new things from england

What was colonial life like? How does it differ if you were poor,rich,city, farm..? if you lived on a farm, you had lots of work to do. you made everything you would eat and wear. In the city, it was crowded and smelly with animals and people selling animal products.
