Definitions

Nucleus The nucleus contains the DNA of the cell, contains the nucleolus, and is surrounded by a membrane.
Nucleolus A dense "control center" for a cell.
Cell Membrane Controls what enters/leaves the cell, as well as protecting it from outer materials. This all known as semi-permeable.
Cytoplasm The watery substance between the membrane and the nucleus. Most of the organelles are located here.
Mitochondria Releases energy from food through cellular respiration.
Ribosome The site of protein synthesis.
Endoplasmic Reticulum The fluid-filled chambers that allow transport of materials.
Golgi Complex Stacks of membrane sacks that process, package, and store products for release.
Vacuole A nutrient and waste-filled organelle.
Lysosome Contains digestive enzymes to break down food.
Contriole / ANIMALS ONLY /
Functions in cell division.
Chloroplasts / PLANTS ONLY /
The site of photosynthesis, this is where plants get their green colour.
Cell Wall / PLANTS ONLY /
Located outside the cell membrane, this organelle give the cell more support.
