Exposition The beginning of a story. This is where background information is given and the setting is established.
Rising Action The events leading up to the climax of the story. Suspension builds in this part of the plot.
Climax The most exciting part of the story. The turning point of the story.
Falling Action The part of the plot where the tension eases.
Resolution The part of the story that reveals how everything turns out. How the conflict is solved.
Conflict The problem in the story involving the main character (protagonist) and a opposing character(antagonist) External and Internal Conflicts
Protagonist The main character.
Antagonist The character that opposes the main character
Theme The central message of the author. Sometimes known as the moral. What do the author want the reader to learn?
Plot The sequence of events that shows what happens in a story.
Setting When and where a story takes place.
Characterization The 6 ways an author shows the character to the reader.
