-Texas could become its own Mexican state after it's population grew enough.
State Colonization Law of 1825 -Allowed foreigners to immigrate to Tx.
-Colonists had to show good moral character.
-Had to be Roman Catholic.
Moses Austin First America to receive Spanish land grant in Mexico, later Texas. He died and passed land to his son.
Stephen Austin known as the Father of Texas, led the second and ultimately successful colonization of the region by bringing 300 families from the United States.
