Terms	Definitions
skull	the bones that cover and protect the brain; also called cranium
maxilla	the upper jawbone
mandible	the lower jawbone
clavicle	collarbone
scapula	the shoulder blade
sternum	the middle of the chest (connects the ribs), breastbone
ribs	are located on each side of the chest (is connected by the sternum).
humerus	the upper arm bone
radius	the slightly shorter and thicker of the two bones of the forearm (on the thumb side)
ulna	the inner and longer of the two bones of the forearm (on the pinky finger side)
carpals	bones of the wrist
metacarpals	bones of the hand
phalanges	finger and toe bones
femur	the longest and thickest bone, upper leg bone
patella	a small flat triangular bone in front of the knee that protects the knee joint
tibia	the inner and thicker of the two bones in the leg between the knee and ankle
fibula	the outer and thinner of the two bones in the leg between the knee and ankle
tarsals	7 bones that make up the ankle
metatarsals	bones of the foot between ankle and toes
pelvic girdle	Hip bones
sacrum	5 fused vertebrae at the bottom of the spinal column that form a triangle
coccyx	the very end of the vertebral column the tailbone
vertebral column	backbone; spine; it is composed of a series of segmented bones
xiphoid process	bottom tip of sternum
