"Charter Oak": Connecticut: Legend has it that when King James II sent Governor Andros to Hartford, he was trying to take back the charter for Connecticut. Someone stole it, and hid it in an oak tree.

Calvert's Reasons for founding: Maryland: Calvert founded Maryland, because he wished to make his family more prosperous (rich/wealthy). He also founded Maryland for religious freedom for the people who were to live there.
