Purpose of the seal oil system | Provides pressurized high-quality oil to the generator's gland seals preventing leakage of hydrogen gas along the generators shaft which exctends through it's casing. |
When is seal oil required | Whenever H2 is in the MGMT is on the turning gear (lubricates seals) |
How is H2 SO pressure maintained and setpoint | Air side maintained 12 psid higher than internal H2 pressure by the differential pressure regulator. H2 side is +/- 2 in H20 of the air side by the pressure equilizing valve so that any leakage will be oil toward the generator and not the H2 towards atmosphere. The air side and H2 side oil pressures are maintained approximately the same so that there is essentially no oil flow between them. |
Operation without the H2 side seal oil pump | H2 purity will decrease as the generator H2 gas now interacts with the air side seal oil system which contains air and moisture.Consumption increases. |
Operation without the air side seal oil pump | A min of 3 psid must be maintaned to keep a seal with the generator in operation. Failure to maintain will cause generator H2 pressure to decrease by leakage through the seals to atmosphere. |
Effect of lowering SO pressure | SO-P-AS maintains 12 psid GT H2Shaft driven or SO-P-SOBP maintains 8 psid GT H2 SO-P-ASBU auto starts when SO LT 5 psid GT H2 and restores pressure to 12 psid. TO-P-BOP or TO-P-EOP maintains 2 psid GT H2 (must depressurize generator) |
SO-P-AS (Air side seal oil pump) power supply | MC-3C |
SO-P-H2S (Hydrogen side seal oil pump) | MC-2D |
SO-P-ASBU (Air side seal oil backup pump) | MC-S2-1B |
SO-P-SOBP (Seal oil backup pump) | MC-1A |
