Location of restrictive disease
usually localized to interstitium of alveolar wall
Characteristics of restrictive diseases
=> decreased expansion of the lung ==> decreased Vital Capacity
=> decreased diffusing capacity ==> cor pulmonale
what is the first sign in restrictivie diseases
alveolitis due to damage to the interstium from the oxygen derived free radicals
what will you see in chest x-ray in restrictive disease?
infilitration of small nodules + ground glass shadows
define idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis?
disease of DIFFUSE interstitial pulmonary fibrosis w/ cobblestoned pleural surface, hallmark lesion = patchy interstitial fibrosis and honeycomb lung. Occurs due to repeated injury and wound healing ==> fibrosis
Clinically = dyspnea on exertion and dry cough
non-neoplastic lung rxn to inhalation of mineral dusts encountered in the workplace
