Charles Darwin Answered the questions on how we get to different species on Earth.
On the Origin of Species Theory of evolution work produced by Darwin. First example of evidence that species change.
HMS Beagle Darwin's cruise that lasted five years. Scouting S. American coast.
Gallapagos Islands site of Darwin's insight.
slits in human embryos turned into? ear canals.
slits in fish embryos turned into? gills
Natural Selection Darwin discovered this theory that nature selects more suitable traits for survival in the same way that humans were manipulating traits through dog breeding. Creatures that survived were those best adapted to the world around them.
Variation explains the differences between siblings in the same family. It was also the starting point for a change in species if the difference was enough to gaurantee survival. Fit get fitter, and unfit vanish. Leads to natural selection.
mutation can happen when DNA copies itself. Causing minute changes that lead to variation.
number of genes in a human 23000
What percent of the double helix doesn't code for proteins? 98%
switch Turns on/off the genes that give a being a certain trait. So, think about the fruit flies. The paintbrush gene is swithced on for the wing spots. Just injecting the gene in a different fruit fly didn't result in spots.
