Proficiency Testing Sample tests performed in a clinical laboratory to determine with what degree of accuarcy tests are being performed. Test samples are checked in the same manner as patient specimens
Provider Performed Microscopy Procedure (PPMP) A CLIA term for those microscopic examinations that require the expertise of a physician or mid-level provider qualified in microscopic examinations. The PPMP is part of the CLIA's moderate complex category of tests
Pulmonary Edema Accumulation of serous fluid in the air vesicles and interstitial tissues of the lungs
Quality Assurance (QA) Process to provide accurate, complete, consistent health care documentation in a timely manner while making every reasonable effort to resolve inconsistencies, inaccuracies, risk management issues, and other problems
Quality Control Measures used to monitor the processing of laboratory sepcimens. Includes proper use, storage, handling, stability, expiration dates, and indications for measuring precision and accuracy of analytic processes

Requisition Request form sent with a specimen specifying tests to be performed on the specimen; most common tests are separated into logical categories with additional space for writing special requests

Waived A category of clinical laboratory tests that are simple, unvarying, and require a minimum of judgment and interpretation
